An experiment in making oleo saccharum - a delightful lemon syrup - led to the creation of this delish cocktail. It is absolutely worth making the oleo saccharum the day before. Cheers!

Prep Time: 5 min

Cook time: n/a

Yield: 1 martini

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka

  • 1 oz oleo saccharum

  • 3/4 oz Cointreau

  • sugar for the rim of the glass

  • ice for shaking

Directions

  1. Put sugar on a small plate. Rub a lemon wedge around the rim of the glass and dip the glass in the sugar. Set aside.

  2. Put drink ingredients (vodka, oleo saccharum and Cointreau) into a shaker with ice and shake until cold. Strain into your glass.

Zhuzh it up!

  • We had lemon juice left from making the oleo sacchraum, which we froze into small fun-shaped ice (about 1.5 tbsp each). You can add one or two of these to your glass and as it melts, the drink gets even lemony-er!

  • You could also add lemon zest to the sugar for the rim of the glass. The more lemon the better, right?

  • We garnished our drink with a dried lemon peel from making the oleo sacchraum.
